The UK, especially the nation’s capital, London, is known for being a pretty expensive place to live. Prices are continuously getting steeper, and it’s become known, especially with the current government in power, as a place for the rich. Those on moderate salaries are getting priced out of certain areas. Young adults are finding it impossible to get on the property ladder, and the rich are buying up houses by the dozen. It’s had the effect of making some areas of the country seriously expensive. These 10 are pretty much exclusive postcodes; most people can’t even dream about owning a property in one of these areas. Here are 10 of Britain’s priciest postcodes.
10. Kensington, W8
Let’s face it, the capital’s always going to be home to the nation’s priciest postcodes. And in the capital of London, there’s a certain region that’s known for being ridiculously pricy. West London and South West London are home to some of the priciest properties on the planet. Talking specifically about Kensington, it’s home to a place called ‘Billionaires Row.’ That just about says it all. The area’s average property price is a cool £5m. Luxury apartments and mansions can be found in the area, and if you can get your hands on that amount of cash. your neighbours are likely to be high-profile celebs, or even royalty.
9. Sandbanks, BH
It’s fair to say that not a lot of people expected to see the area of Sandbanks on this list. It’s a small peninsula on the English Chanel coast, and is one of the most exclusive postcodes of the UK. In fact, it has the fourth highest land value in the world. You can therefore guess that house prices are going to be steep. Only the rich and famous can afford to buy property on this exclusive bit of British coastline.
8. Surrey, GU
Surrey shares its borders with Kent and lies just outside Greater London. It’s a popular destination for those who work in the city, but want don’t want the hustle and bustle of city life when they get home. It’s known as the million-pound town, and has a serene, laid-back atmosphere about the place. Large house and plenty of greenery – it’s one of the wealthiest areas outside the capital.
7. Hertfordshire, WD
Hertfordshire is another area that lies just outside of London. It lies within the regions of the major motorway connecting the area to the capital and has great transport links. It has a village feel about the place, and many grand houses. It’s the home of many celebs who want to escape city life.
6. Buckinghamshire, HP
This area’s known for its remoteness. It may be remote, off the beaten track so to speak, but that’s precisely why people love the area. Celebs love buying properties in Buckinghamshire so they can enjoy some peace and serenity, and for the grand old houses of course.
5. Knightsbridge, SW7
Here’s another region south west of the capital. The name itself just oozes with class, makes you think of sophistication, elegance and decadence. That’s why people look to buy property in Knightsbridge. But it’s only going to be the wealthiest percentage of population who can afford to do so. It’s also an area close to Hyde Park, so has plenty of attractions and city delights right on its doorstep.
4. West Brompton, SW10
Not a lot of people would consider West Brompton to be amongst the priciest areas of the nation. But the South West London district is up there, with the priciest property going for £80m. It may not get that much recognition because of its classier neighbours, Kensington, Knightsbridge, and Chelsea, but it’s on par with these areas in a lot of aspects.
3. Notting Hill, W11
Notting Hill has been the site of many films and British dramas. Popular culture may not paint Notting Hill in the best of light, because it is one of the most desirable places to live, amongst those who carry a bit of cash of course. You can’t fetch a property in Notting Hill for anything less than a million pounds, and it’s in a great city location.
2. Belgravia, SW1
Belgravia – the name just sound posh and uber sophisticated. It is as posh as it sounds and is actually one of the most expensive districts in the world.
1. Chelsea, SW3
Putting Chelsea at the helm of this list was a no-brainer. Kensington is Chelsea’s poorer cousin – that just about says it all. It’s one of the richest postcodes on the planet, let alone in London or the UK. Chelsea’s home to the rich and famous. It’s a stone’s throw away from all the delights of Central London, and is just an all-round beautiful place to live. You can’t get a property in Chelsea for anything under 2 million, and you’d be lucky if you get that.
