Whatsapp To Stop Working On These Platforms After 31St December
WhatsApp will stop support for a number of platforms after December 31, 2017. The messaging app will drop support for ‘BlackBerry OS’, ‘BlackBerry 10’, ‘Windows Phone 8.0’ and older platforms from December 31, 2017.
WhatsApp says in a blog post that users on these particular platforms will not be able to create new accounts, nor re-verify existing accounts once the company ends support.
WhatsApp had earlier announced it will stop support for many of these older platforms. End of support does not mean a user will lose access to their WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp says users can continue using the app on their phone, but should not expect any future security updates or new features.
While Windows 8 will be axed down once 2018 begins; WhatsApp will continue support for Windows 8.1 version and higher devices, even though Microsoft itself has admitted that Windows Mobile is dead.
To recall, WhatsApp had extended support for both platforms in June this year. At the time, WhatsApp had also revealed that the app will stop working for phones running Nokia S40 will be stopped from December 31, 2018.
The app will stop working on phones running Android 2.3.7 and older (Gingerbread) will be stopped from February 1, 2020. The messaging app became unavailable on Nokia phones running Symbian S60, from June 30, 2017.
In BlackBerry’s case, the company has itself confirmed it will no longer be manufacturing or launching new smartphones, and the BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry OS have been abandoned.

Facebook Adds Face Recognition Feature Which Notify Users When They Are Spotted
In one of my previous post, I mentioned that Facebook was working on some Face Recognition Technology but we weren’t so sure what they actually planned to do with it then. Now Facebook has just announced a new optional tool which will help Facebook users find out when they appear in someone else’s photos.
You will notice a new Face Recognition Option which can you can either enable or disable. The whole new Facebook Face Recognition Technology is all controlled by just one button. Once enabled, Facebook will notify you whenever you are spotted in a picture you are not tagged in. It also serves as a security measure whenever someone tries to use your picture as profile picture.
Whenever Facebook detects a picture where you appear in but not tagged, you will be given three options. You can either tag yourself in the picture, reach out to the person who posted the picture or just ignore and leave yourself untagged.
The new Facebook’s Face Recognition feature has already started rolling out across all regions except Canada and Europe where Facebook doesn’t offer the Face Recognition Technology.

Google Still Tracks You Even With Your Location Services Off
Google has been fingered in the secret act of collecting locational information about smartphone users behind their back even when their internet is off.
Smartphones with no sim, no location service on or even that which has just be reset to its factory mode still keeps tracks of you and sends information to Google.
It’s been proven that Google has been collecting Android phones’ locations data even when location services are turned off, a a revelation made by an investigation that Google tracks you.
Quartz, an online media publication observed that android smartphones mutually works hand in hand with others thereby collecting the addresses of a nearby mobile phone masts and sends them back to Google.
The data collected has no bound that even if the service location (GPS) were turned off on the phones, no installed or pre-installed apps, or no SIM card in the phone. It collects data regardless of all these and send them to Google and Google tracks you wherever you go.
The result is that Google, the unit of Alphabet behind Android, has access to data about individuals’ locations and their movements that go far beyond a reasonable consumer expectation of privacy, wrote Quartz reporter Keith Collins.
Also, a Google spokesperson told Quartz that the cell tower addresses were included in information sent to the system Google uses to manage push notifications and messages on Android phones for the past 11 months. They were never used or stored and the company is taking steps to end the practice.
It’s no longer a secret that Google tracks you with your phone’s location at every instance in time, many of the apps we use on a regular bases wouldn’t work as well without the device location services turned on.
Also, we the end users also have the right to tell Google through your Android phone to remove your location history from your Google Maps Timeline and stop keeping screenshots of your old searches if you’re so concerned about your privacy.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this.
Facebook To Open Nigerian Hub Next Year
Facebook will open a “community hub space” in Nigeria next year to encourage software developers and technology entrepreneurs, and become the latest technology giant to pursue a training programme in fast-growing Africa.
The United States-based social media company said the centre would host an “incubator programme” to help develop technology start-ups, while it would also train 50,000 Nigerians in digital skills.
Africa’s rapid population growth, falling data costs and heavy adoption of mobile phones rather than PCs is attracting technology companies looking to attract more users.
Facebook did not provide details of the period over which its planned training would take place in Nigeria, which is Africa’s most populous country with 180 million inhabitants, according to Reuters.
We understand the important role Facebook plays here in Nigeria with developers and start-ups and are interested in helping these communities, Emeka Afigbo, its regional head of platform partnership said in a statement on Wednesday.
Facebook said the training, aimed at software developers, entrepreneurs and students, would be offered in cities, including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Kaduna.
Last year, Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, visited technology companies in Lagos and his charitable foundation provided $24m to Andela, which trains developers.
Google’s chief executive in a July visit to Lagos said the company aimed to train 10 million people across the continent in online skills over the next five years. He also said it hoped to train 100,000 software developers in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.
Although Africa may not offer as much opportunity to add consumers as China or India, because large wealth gaps mean that many people in places like Nigeria have little disposable income, Facebook said more than 22 million people already use its social media website every month in Nigeria.
Widespread poverty means mobile adoption tends to favour basic phone models. That, combined with poor telecommunications infrastructure, can mean slow Internet speeds and less Internet surfing.

How You Can Spot A Fake Person Online And How To Avoid Them
Social media is an excellent way to meet new people and create virtual friendships. Sometimes this ends up with a physical meeting and then the relationship grows closer. It is a wonderful thing and some people can find their soul-mate there. For people with certain issues which would benefit from crowd-funding, social media brings more people into play. So, what is the problem here?
Fake People
We have all seen the postings from people who use a username different from their actual name. These names are not always representations of what the user believes in and do not typically lead to a real name. This is disappointing if you truly want to become friends with them. On the other hand, what if they are real and a fine match? How do you get through to them with conversation?
That part is easy and simple. All you do is engage them in a chat. From there, you might find that you and the other user have compatibility for friendship. At this point, they may reveal their real name. Once again, how do you know that it is, indeed their real name? It may not be. There are an overwhelming number of people out there on dating websites and elsewhere who pose to be something and someone they are not. In fact, this practice is so pervasive that it has its own name – catfishing.
What does getting catfished mean? It means that you have been taken in by someone who is not what or whom they say they are. An obvious example of catfishing is fake profiles on dating sites. But it can also be snakes out to scam you for money, hackers looking for personal information or simply people with psychological disorders who find relief in role playing – such as men with sexuality issues posing as women.
Real People
While the social media fake people are involved with creating the illusion, real people have to learn how to spot them. First of all, if anything seems fishy just by instinct; that could be a red flag alone. Honestly you are looking for erratic posts and low friend counts with few pictures and great boasts such as being models or high level professionals. A quantification of money and power may be the definitive of male posts as well as female.
As mentioned earlier, gender confusion in social media is common and so are power plays. It is the forbidden yet alluring arena for the deviation some people are attracted to. Real and honest people should find all the suggestive information from professional sources to better understand how to spot fakes.
Often, by searching through the same username on other sites, you might see more about what that user is doing on the internet. You may be able to come up with a great deal of information leading up to their full identity. Though this process may take some time and creativity, it is completely worth it for the result. After some time, you will become a pro at this much needed task

5 Things You Can Do On Whatsapp We Bet You Haven’t Taken Note Of
Whatsapp is a universally used messaging app and has continued to improve on its functionality by introducing features.
Photo: Android Authority.
The most recent it added was an ‘Unsend’ (Delete for everyone) feature that lets you recall messages you wish not to send on second thought.
But the instant messenger packs a number of features that most likely go unused because the user has not taken out time to explore.
Here are five features Whatsapp has to make your messaging experience richer.
Star feature
In your chat messages, you can star messages which helps you easily find a message when you need to. To star a message, just hold down the message and tap the star icon on the top screen. You can then get back the message in the app’s main menu anytime you wish.
Pinning feature
This is especially useful if you have a long list of chat messages. Pinning a particular chat like you would do a tweet would take that chat message up for easy re-visiting. And if you want to let go pinning, unpinning is as easy as holding down the chat and locating the ‘Unpin’ button at the top bar.
Mark as Unread
Where you have read a message but for some reason don’t have time to reply the person, you can mark the message as ‘Unread’ by holding down the chat , going to the three dotted lines at the top right, and selecting ‘’Mark as unread’’. A green circle will appear beside the particular chat as a reminder.
Using your phone assistants
For those who don’t like typing, you could employ the services of your virtual assistants – Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa to type the message for you.
For example, by uttering the command ‘’Ok Google’’, followed by the name of the person you want to message and the actual contents of the message.
Custom notifications
If you’re expecting an important WhatsApp message from someone, set a custom notification for them by opening the chat, tapping their name at the top and hitting Custom Notifications. Cool right?
Bonus: You can avoid the blue ticks and ‘Last seen’ features by going into Settings > Account > Privacy > Read Receipts. However, bear in mind that, by doing so, you’ll lose the ability to see when your own sent messages have been read.
Also, another clever way of reading your messages without triggering the blue ticks, is by enabling Airplane mode before opening your messages. – just remember to close the app before switching airplane mode off again.

5 Ways You Answer Phone Call In Public That Makes You Look Local
Have you ever watched someone making a phone call but then you can’t help yourself staring at them and wondering where they come from?
If it turns out to be someone you probably just met, no doubt, they would definitely have left a bad first impression about them self.
And I bet you know how hard it is trying to correct a wrong “first impression”.
But have you for a second tried watching yourself while you’re on the phone?
Lol.. Sounds crazy right?
Yeah…
Just as it may sound crazy, it’s even funny and to a point embarrassing; if only you could see yourself with a third eye.
Here’re 5 Ways You’ve Probably Been Making Phone Calls That Makes You Look Local
1. Demonstrating on the phone
Do you remember the last time you saw someone demonstrating while making a phone call?
You may already be smiling right now if you can relate.
I’ve seen folks do this… the last time I saw this was last week and the guy on the phone was like;
“Yes, If you enter the house, go upstairs. By the left (with his hands pointing to the right like the person could see him) you’ll see 3 doors. The first one leads to the bathroom, the second leads to the visitor’s room. Enter the second room, by your left, you should see a tall wardrobe (still demonstrating how tall the wardrobe is).”
Lol… That’s crazy.
Demonstrating while on a phone call is like spraying perfume just before you take a passport photograph. It’s definitely of no use.
And if someone sees you doing that, they’d sure look you like you’re local.
2. Talking too loud when there’s an earphone on your ear
Shout out to all those who can’t make a phone call without using earphones. You sure rock!
While most of them use earphones with some swagger, a lot of them pretty much get their self deaf with it.
Very much the same way they behave (talking too loud) when they have an earphone fit into their ear and probably listening to one of Wizkid’s Hit songs.
3. Placing your phone on your ear while it’s charging
I’ll want to believe you don’t already do this cos it’s “wrng.”
Yeah! You heard me right. It’s so wrong that I forgot to spell “Wrong” right.
There’s no techki explanation for this aside from the fact that it could shock your ears like how the Flash got struck by lightning. Of course, that’s techki enough.
But there’re health consequences of doing this.
I stumbled on this post of this Nigerian living in China who’s phone exploded when he decided to charge it and make a call at the same time.
And after going through comments on post speaking on the dangers of making calls while charging phones, I discovered that a lot of consumers are asking if there’s a particular ear one should use to answer phone calls
Well, there sure is. Paul Samuel – FitnessDoctor got it covered in this article – Here’s Why You Should Use Only This Ear To Answer Phone Calls
You should check it out.
I’ll advise you unplug your phone from charging just before you receive or make a phone call,
If you don’t, you won’t only look local, but you stand a chance looking like a dead meat.
4. Holding your phone with the back speaker on your ear.
Now, this is something you see guys and chicks with Nokia torch doing.
Couple of times, I’ve asked folks why they do this but they keep giving me the same answer – “the phone speaker is placed at the back of the phone”
To a point, that reason almost made sense until I asked why don’t they make calls with the back of their Infinix phone on their ear.
Lol… Am still waiting for an answer though.
Probably you can give me one in the comments below. Come to think of it; Infinx places its phone speakers at the back their phones and if you ask me, those speakers are loud enough to get your call done.
5. Putting calls on the Loudspeaker while in public places
While I may consider this to some sort of show off, I also think it’s local.
About a month ago, I was in need of cash so I went to the bank to make a withdrawal.
On getting there, I met a queue and just behind the queue was a crowd also waiting to use the ATM machine.
You know how it is when you meet a queue and you’re trying to find out who’s last on the queue? Well, I didn’t even bother asking – it was no use.
After standing for close to 7 minutes, I was beginning to notice the crowd’s frustration at the regressive movement of the queue when a phone call come through.
Initially, I thought it was my phone ringing but on seeing the lady close to me raising her phones to her ears to answer a phone call, I realized it wasn’t my phone ringing and we had the same ringtone.
Honestly, I was starting to like her cos I felt we already had something in common (having the same ringtone is just okay to start a conversation)
So I felt until… she blew it.
With all that noise at the ATM stand outside the bank, she turned on Loudspeaker to pick her call. And from the sounding of her voice, I’m guessing it was her boyfriend.
The call lasted over 10 minutes (just before I got angry and decided to cut in lines). From the conversations I managed to eavesdrop, she was sounding so innocent, speaking with a crazy intonated feminine voice which I believe she was forming.
At some point, she was like… “Dear, I can’t hear you clearly, I think the call is breaking”
And I was like…
“What’s this girl up to, even a deaf man knows you can’t hear someone clear when you have the loudspeaker turned on in a noisy place.”
Something told me she was trying to hit on me but deep down, my soul wasn’t ready to give it a chance.
And here’s where this story ends, I made use of the ATM machine before she did and she ended up looking less romantic and more local to me.
How do you answer phone calls, are you guilty of any of these, what other ways do people make calls that look weird to you? Share your thoughts.
