Nigeria ’ s Super Eagles Move Up In Latest FIFA World Ranking

Nigeria’s national football team moved up one place in the latest FIFA world ranking released earlier today by the sport’s governing body.
This comes despite the Gerard Rohr -led team losing their last competitive match 2-0 at home to South Africa in an AFCON qualifying match played in June.
The Super Eagles are now the 38th best national team in the world, a position shared with the Greek national team. Both nations have 716 points on the ranking.
That makes Nigeria the sixth best African team, behind Egypt, DR Congo, Senegal, Tunisia and Cameroon who are the top five teams in descending order.
Nigeria and Cameroon – also up one place on the world ranking – will face each other in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match next month.
While no African nation is in the top 20 in the world ranking, Egypt and DR Congo are the two teams in the top 30 – the Pharaohs dropping one place to 25th and DR Congo maintaining 28th position ahead of Republic of Ireland and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Brazil meanwhile now lead the world ranking with 1604 points, replacing Germany at the top despite the not being part of the FIFA Confederations Cup which the European nation won.
The world’s top five ranking is completed by Argentina which maintained third spot, Switzerland in fourth, and Poland in fifth – the latter two nations moving up one place each and dropping European champions, Portugal, from fourth to sixth as a result.
