While Ekiti State government is busy motivating its teachers with gifts running in millions, the teachers of Oyo state have not been paid for the past three months.
The teachers, under the umbrella of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT),Oyo State chapter, through its secretary, Comrade Waheed Olojede, yesterday decried non-payment of their three months salaries owed them by the state government.
Olojede stated this while speaking with newsmen at a programme organized to celebrate the 2017 World Teachers Day themed, “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers.”
Olojede lamented that it was unfortunate that welfare and security of teachers in the state are not being given proper attention. He said that as at yesterday, when the Teachers Day was being celebrated, teachers in Oyo state
were yet to receive their July, August and September salaries.

While appealing to the state government to give more attention to teachers’ welfare, Olojede noted that the irregular payment of salaries has almost eroded the freedom and dignity in the teaching profession.
Ajimobi who was absent at the event spoke through State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Professor Joseph Adeniyi Olowofela. He said that his administration will continue to encourage teachers to develop professionally because the quality of education in any society depends largely on the quality of its teachers.
Ajimobi said that his administration has been able to formulate and implement moral boosting policies to make life more meaningful for teachers in the state. It would be recalled that governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose gave the NUT in Ekiti N100 million, gifted cars to best teachers, and an all expense paid trip to Dubai.
