For the first three months of her life, Supatra “Nat” Sasuphan was so ill that she was kept in an incubator. As a newborn, she underwent two operations just to breathe. Her parents had no idea something was wrong until she was born.
Nat has a rare genetic condition called Ambras Syndrome, which causes thick hair to grow on her arms and other parts of her body. But the hairiest part of her body is actually her face.
Doctors tried removing the hair with laser treatment assuming it would work, but nothing did. It just kept growing back. And the older she got, the longer and thicker the hair became. In fact, it grew so long that her mother began trimming it on a regular basis.
For years, Nat was constantly bullied by other kids, who called her names like “monkey face” and “wolf girl.” She’d come home in tears from all the pointing, staring and rude comments.
But then something incredible happened. Nat was officially named the “hairiest girl in the world” by Guinness World Records. Instead of making her even more self-conscious, the newfound fame and attention changed everything for this brave little girl, and in a way you may not expect.
