The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
early this week revealed its plans not to mobilize
all gradates this year. A meme had been received
by institutions around the country to slash the
lists of graduates to be mobilized in the batch B
of the year 2016, as finally constraints wont
allow all to be mobilized at once.
Institution like the Bowen University who had over
900 graduates have been forced to randomly
select about 350 students to serve this year as
the remaining would have to settle for next year,
and as a result the Management of the university
is already considering the criteria to be used for
the mobilization of the allocated number of
graduates.
A representative of NYSC had this to say; “the
N10, 500, as budgeted by the government for
corp members’ kits, was no longer enough.”
“This year for instance, since the Federal
Government does not want a situation where
youths who are done with tertiary education hang
out longer than necessary before having their
chance to serve, we were given 260, 000 corps
members to mobilise,” she told The Guardian.”
“So far, we are left with about 70, 000. Once the
present set leaves in October or thereabouts, this
outstanding will be taken care of for the year.
This is not a hopeless situation as people are
made to believe.”
